THE CHALLENGE
This December 2025 I am taking on the challenge to become the first woman with type 1 diabetes to summit the highest mountain in Antarctica, Mount Vinson.
The two-week expedition will involve exposure to average temperatures of -30oC, high winds, altitude and technical terrain. I will be carrying a heavy pack, pulling sleds with gear and traversing up fixed lines and glaciers as I raise vital funds for the charity, Breakthrough T1D.
I’m Rachel, a medical doctor, mountaineer, and proud Type 1 diabetic
Summit of Aconcagua, the highest mountain in South America, 2024
I’ve lived with type 1 diabetes for 25 years, and I’m determined to show that with the right mindset, anything is possible.
I am raising money for Breakthrough T1D (formerly JDRF), who have been a part of every type 1 diabetes research breakthrough over the last 50 years, from technological advancements to new therapies. I have experienced first hand the difference Breakthrough T1D’s work has made to my day to day life, and allowing me to lead the lifestyle I do.
The ultimate goal is to find a cure and this shared vision is something I want to be a part of.
I’m excited to be helped by these wonderful supporters:
